Clysar® Introduces Two New Thin-Gauge Shrink Films for Delicate Products and High-Speed Applications

OSHKOSH, WI – September 26, 2011 – Packagers who use shrink film now have two new ultra-thin choices from Clysar to achieve source reduction and lower total cost throughout the package life cycle. New Clysar® LTCH polyolefin shrink film is designed for high-speed static seal applications of 80 packages per minute, such as frozen pizza, DVDs or fresh bakery. Clysar® LTCL is a “soft” shrink film with a low shrink force ideal for products like office papers or coffee filters. The two new choices round out Clysar’s line of high-performance Lowest Total Cost (LTC) polyolefin films.
Clysar’s expanded LTC thin-gauge polyolefin shrink film platform includes new LTCL film for packaging thin or delicate products and LTCH shrink film for high-speed shrink packaging applications.
The LTC film family offers upfront cost savings due to material reduction in recommended applications, as well as overall bottom line improvements throughout the packaging life cycle. LTC films lower operating cost through improved yield compared to heavier-gauge shrink films, reduce changeovers and downtime and achieve more packages per roll of film. In addition, LTC films can be run at the same speeds as heavier-gauge films, with no reduction in line speeds or waste due to rewraps. The films’ strength and tear resistance also reduce cost at retail that can result from compromised or torn packaging materials.
“We extended the LTC platform to create a complete thin-gauge family with a greater breadth of performance characteristics,” says Vicki Larson, Clysar’s Senior Marketing Manager. “Real bottom line improvement requires more than reduced gauge. It demands the right operating performance for the right product. Clysar has been able to successfully leverage our thin-gauge technology to address more applications, resulting in improved productivity, near-zero downtime and a lower package cost. Plus, we’ve improved packaging integrity and appearance for even hard-to-package products.”
Lightweight new Clysar® LTCL Low-Energy Polyolefin Shrink Film provides a gentle, balanced shrink for thin or delicate products. The film can replace film up to twice as thick to create beautifully wrapped packages without bending or distortion, and can be run on L-bar and side sealers.
Clysar® LTCH High-Speed Polyolefin Shrink Film is exceptionally stiff and has a wide operating window, making it the best low-gauge shrink film for high-speed static seal applications. LTCH is engineered for reliable performance at speeds of more than 80 packages per minute.
Besides lowering total cost, the LTC film family creates true sustainability gains through reduced carbon footprint and overall reduction in packaging material. The films typically provide downgauging opportunities in targeted 50-60 gauge shrink film applications, depending on packaging requirements. Because more film is provided per roll, LTC film requires fewer cores, pallets, transport and storage space for supply efficiency and reduction of shipping materials. In addition, LTC film requires less heat and trim material to seal than competitive films.
While typically used to replace heavier polyolefin shrink films, LTC films offer an excellent source reduction alternative to replace polyethylene films, as they use up to 50% less material than polyethylene while delivering superior productivity and aesthetics.
Clysar® LTC films also have documented superior performance over a range of shrink film properties compared to competitive thin-gauge shrink films on the market, including:
- More available shrink for crisp, tight wraps with excellent cleanup
- Better balanced shrink to conform evenly to a range of products
- Superior film strength for process efficiency, package integrity
- Superior tear resistance to minimize film tearing and rips
- Better clarity, shine and gloss for attractive package appearance and sparkling shelf appeal
- Wider operating window, for faster line speeds and more forgiving shrink under a range of operating conditions and equipment variables
